In a bid to instill discipline and integrity among its rank, Lagos State Police Command has tried 81 of its operatives for various criminal offenses committed between October 2019 and October 2020.
THE NATIONS EXPRESS gathered that the offences committed by these Officers ranges from murder, excessive use of power, corrupt practices, misconduct and bribery.
SP Olumuyowa Adejobi, Lagos State’s Police Public Relation Officer, made this disclosure to the general public.
Adejobi said the command has dismissed 17 operatives, of which 7 Officers were prosecuted after dismissal, while 10 others were dismissed. He said 18 of the men were demoted, and 29 were awarded #10 naira major entries and warning letters accordingly.
He said others were awarded extra fatigue while 16 of the men were discharged and acquitted for want of evidence.
He said that the Officers that were tried in the orderly room proceedings conducted at various locations in Lagos State included 45 Inspectors, 36 Corporals.
He also said that some senior officers of the command have been issued queries for various disciplinary offenses and that the queries are being processed at the Force Headquarters Abuja for necessary action and punishments.
While noting that the trial of the men were instituted base on complaints levelled against them, he said that several of the Officers were attached to the Lagos state command, while only a handful were serving at various stations outside Lagos State.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has said that the punishment taken by the command was necessary, to get rid of bad cops who were painting a negative image of the Police Force, adding that such indiscipline by anyone would not be tolerated.
The Commissioner also appealed to the general populace to report any misconduct of police operatives to the appropriate authorities, adding that the matter will be treated as urgent.
