IKPOBA-OKHA LGA CHAIRMAN MEETS TRADITIONAL RULERS, SECURITY AGENCIES, VIGILANTE GROUPS: ADVOCATES RETURN OF NIGHT GUARDS, MOVES TO CURB SECURITY CHALLENGES.

Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Chairman, Dr. Eric Osayande on Monday, held a security meeting to access the violent trend that has ensued in Upper Sakponba axis and environs in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area

In the meeting, Osayande warned that anyone caught in an act of criminality in the locality will be given adequate punishment by the relevant authorities

The meeting which held at the conference hall, Council Secretariat at Idogbo were his Vice, Hon. Jolly Osayande, Secretary to Local Government, Barr. Osagie Igbinomwanhia, Speaker of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Kingsley Balogban, Commissioner of Police, Edo State, Babatunde Johnson Kokumo, Local Government Area directors of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, Department of State Services, vigilante groups, civil society groups among others

Speaking during the meeting, Osayande said the interactive session became necessary to analyze the security situation in the locality; nothing that every area within the LGA must now return to the practice of night guards; this will be funded by every home, schools, filling stations banks and other relevant organizations; the Chairman tasked heads of various areas, odionweres, Enigie, Ohens, others to fall back to their communities, areas, set up night guards and reverse back to Council for further directive as any area that fail to comply risks takeover by Council

Speaking, “we have deliberated extensively on the security challenges in the area; it is fortunate that the Police Commissioner, Johnson Kokumo has pledged to support our new security architecture to restore peace and order in the locality”

Furthermore, “the State has pledged to support the Local Government in setting up a Military post in Idogbo” Osayande said

Speaking at the event, the Edo State Police Commissioner, Johnson Kokumo hailed the move by the Council Boss, expressing displeasure over the violence that has erupted in Upper Sakponba area and environs

“I am very pleased with this initiative; the Ikpoba-Okha security arrangement is a beautiful one and I will support with every necessary logistics”; Kokumo appealed to Ikpoba-Okha residents to go about their businesses without fear

Osayande, during the meeting, noted that the initial 50-man Council vigilante list has been increased to 70 following appeals from stakeholders across the LGA, nothing that 40 will be deployed to Upper Sakponba and environs, while 30 will go to Ikpoba Hill and Sapele road areas respectively

At the meeting, Dr. Eric Osayande vowed to sustain the ongoin security talks, noting that the engagement will be on a quarterly basis, moving from zone to zone

“Fortunately, the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has deployed contractors to access the level of damage at the Idogbo, Ugbekun, St. Saviour and Dumez Road Police Stations with a promise to rebuild the burnt facilities

Traditional rulers from across the LGA, youths, private security operatives, members of the Ikpoba-Okha Legislative Arm, members of the Ikpoba-Okha Executive Council, civil society organizations, members of the press, were among dignitaries present at the security meeting
