Operatives of the Delta State Police Command in collaboration with vigilante group have reportedly gun down four fleeing suspected armed robbers in Oviere community in Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.

The hoodlums were alleged to have successfully robbed some residents of the area when they met their waterloo.

The incident happened on Friday night.

The gunmen were said to have engaged the police team drafted to the community in fierce battle running over 30 minutes.

However, the policemen and the vigilante members were able to overpower the armed-wielding hoodlums leading to the death of four members of the robbery gang said to be numbering eight.

Other members of the robbery gang reportedly escaped during the gun duel.

Some guns were recovered from the deceased including two locally made guns and tricycle otherwise known as ‘Keke’ which the gang used for their operations.

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident on Monday.

She said the late armed robbers were operating at Oviere and Ovu communities when they were killed.

Onovwakpoyeya said the police are on the trail of the other fleeing suspects.
