mongst other things IGP Solomon Ehigiator Arase(Rtd) did for Edo and Owan people before he left service is to get the approval of the establishment of a Police secondary School in Edo State to be sited specifically at Oke-Ora. Owan West Local Government Area Of Edo State.
This is no common feat and Owan is very lucky to have this School.
How are we lucky?
Well,the most sought after secondary school in Nigeria by states and communities are Police Secondary Schools. Police Secondary School is a co-educational institution by the Nigeria Police Force, offering sound qualitative secondary educational programs while providing recreation and co-curricular activities as ways of ensuring all-round development. The communities where these schools are cited have the advantage of producing police officers ( senior,not rank and file) as students have the privilege of going straight to Police Academy.
The Nigerian Police Secondary Schools is managed by the The Force Education Unit which was created in 1986 to provide education services as welfare particularly to children of both serving and retired personnel of the Force
Presently, the Force Education Unit is made up of fifteen (15) functional secondary schools and seventy-one (71) primary schools. We have;

LOOK AT THE CAPTION AGAIN…
In 1991,the federal government gave Edo the biggest opportunity to become the most attractive state in Nigeria with the most infrastructures. EDO was given the Olympic village to be sited at Afuze. About 1000 hectares was appropriated for initial take off. It was to have an International Airport,Tertiary Sport Institution,Biggest Stadium in Nigeria,Secondary and primary schools,Mosque,Church,tarred roads,race courses modeled after the Olympic Games version,facilities for all sporting activities and trainings. Just imagine the employment opportunities thereto.Many years after,this project is yet to kick off. We all know the Federal Government in Nigeria and how they do things. You have to push them before they swing into action. The best thing EDO state government would have done is to start the project as it can recoup its money back from the Federal Government. Infact,when it was becoming too long in Execution,Lagos state started building something they tagged Olympic village. Their intention was to hand it over the Federal Government and shortchanged Edo but God on our side,that ventured failed. Let us hope that,God will give us leaders that will help realized this dream.
Now,to the Police Secondary School. We thank Barrister Solomon Arase for giving it to us.We have so many benefits to gain from this school and this is the reason we should not allow it suffer the fate of the Olympic village. We are going to start building it ourselves so that,we can hand it over formally to the Police Education Unit.
In this connection,we need the state and Owan local governments including our sons and daughters with means. This is where Unity Foundation for Owan Progress comes in. We are going to spearhead this project by mobilizing Owan people for this project. It is a gradual thing. If na one block we fit buy,we go buy. We need our diasporan members to participate fully in this. This is our pet project for the year…raising money to kickstart the Police secondary school at Oke.
All hands must be on deck on this one. The ufop EXCO will come out with a comprehensive plan on how we will go about this. Oiselebua de ba mai…Isee!
